Top up your shop cards, twenty at a time

Commercial printing means a hundred-card minimum and a few days of waiting. With heavy A4 stock and this layout you can print exactly as many as you need, with bleed already applied.

When home printing makes sense

It makes sense while details still change — opening hours, a new stylist, a seasonal design — and in the first months when you cannot predict demand. It stops making sense for special papers, foil, rounded corners, or runs above a thousand, where an online printer costs a few pounds per hundred. Switch to a printer once the design settles.

What the 3 mm bleed does

When a background colour reaches the edge of the card, the artwork must extend past the trim line. This layout re-lays your image 3 mm larger on every side, which rescues a design that was drawn without bleed. It also means anything sitting right at the edge gets cropped, so keep logos and text 4 mm inside the trim line in the original file.

The paper carries half the impression

The same design reads differently on matte uncoated, on gloss, and on a textured fancy paper. For a consumer inkjet, matte coated 180 gsm is the most forgiving; for a laser printer, plain 180 gsm uncoated. Feed heavy stock one sheet at a time through the manual tray whatever the machine.

Frequently asked questions

Can it round the corners?

Not in the PDF, but a 3 mm or 5 mm corner punch does the job by hand in a couple of minutes for twenty cards. If you plan to round them, keep artwork at least 5 mm away from each corner.

Will a QR code still scan?

Yes, provided it is at least 15 mm square at 300 dpi. Below that, ink spread closes up the modules and scan rates drop. Leave the quiet zone — four modules of clear space — around it as well.

Can I make more than twenty?

Just change the quantity. Sixty cards at eight up becomes an eight-page PDF that you load with a stack of stock and print as a single job.
