Nine sheets is effectively A1
With the default 5 mm margin and 5 mm flap, three A4 across span 200 times 3 minus 10, which is 590 mm, and three down span 287 times 3 minus 10, which is 851 mm. A1 is 594 by 841. The difference is a few millimetres, so unless you must hit the standard exactly, the grid is the more intuitive way to ask.
Assemble nine sheets column by column
Nine sheets have four interior junctions, and gluing them in the wrong order concentrates the error in the middle. Join A-1, B-1 and C-1 into a vertical strip, then build the second and third columns the same way. Bringing three strips together leaves only two long straight joins to align. Work against a ruler or the printed grid of a cutting mat.
Good for big numbers and QR codes
This size suits parking bay numbers, event wayfinding and sports-day banners, all read from a distance. Blown up across nine sheets, a QR code ends up around 500 mm on a side, which a phone can read from ten metres. QR codes need their quiet zone, so leave generous white space around the code in the source file before you load it.

What size do nine sheets make?
About 590 by 851 mm with the defaults, essentially A1. With margin and overlap both at zero it becomes 630 by 891 mm.
Does the error build up over nine sheets?
A 5 mm flap absorbs up to 5 mm at each join, so across three sheets you could accumulate 10 mm. Raise the overlap to 10 mm if you need precision. Cutting accurately along the trim line matters more than anything else.
How are the sheets labelled?
Letters are rows and numbers are columns. The top row reads A-1, A-2, A-3, the middle row B-1 to B-3 and the bottom row C-1 to C-3. The PDF pages come out in that same row-major order.
