A6: sheet size and hole pattern
A A6 sheet is 105 x 148 mm with 6 punched holes. Centre-to-centre spacing runs 19-19-38-19-19 mm from the top, so the run of holes spans 114 mm and sits centred on the sheet, and each centre is about 9 mm in from the binding edge with a 6 mm punch. The same footprint as a paperback, so ordinary book covers fit it. These are the widely quoted nominal figures — real binders vary between manufacturers, so treat the printed hole guides as a reference and either punch through an existing refill or let a six-hole punch set the positions.
How the to-do list layout is used
Rows with a checkbox each, and a date and heading field along the top. For working through a day on paper, and for shopping or packing checklists. Rule colour can be black, grey, light blue or pink and the line weight is adjustable, so the ruling stays out of the way if you draft in pencil and ink over it. Dated layouts take a year and month, and public holidays are deliberately left off: they differ by country and by year, so writing in the ones that matter to you is more reliable than trusting a generated calendar.
Print 4 up on A4
A 105 x 148 mm sheet will not feed reliably through a home printer, so the tool also builds an A4 sheet with 4 refills laid out on it, complete with cut lines and hole guides. Trim with a craft knife and a steel rule, then punch. The one setting that matters is scaling: choose "Actual size" or 100%, because the usual default of "Fit to page" shrinks the sheet by a few millimetres and throws the hole spacing off.
Paper weight, and why nothing is uploaded
Commercial refills are usually 70-80 gsm. Ordinary copier paper at 64-68 gsm binds fine but ghosts badly with fountain-pen ink, so pick 80 gsm or heavier if you write on both sides. One more thing worth knowing: the PDF is assembled inside your browser. The dates you type and the file you download never reach a server, and there is no upload step at all.
Frequently asked questions
How do I check that my binder really takes A6 sheets?
Pull one refill out and measure it. If it is around 105 x 148 mm with 6 holes, it is A6. Sheets of the same outer size can still have different hole spacing, so also check the gap between the first and second hole — about 19 mm on A6.
Can I change how many checkboxes there are?
Indirectly: row pitch drives the count. Widen the pitch for long task names, tighten it for a dense shopping list.
Is anything uploaded?
No. The PDF is assembled by JavaScript running in your browser and saved straight to your device. No dates, no settings and no file ever reach a server, so it is safe to use for work calendars.
When I duplex, does the gutter end up on the wrong side?
Turn the duplex option on and every second page is mirrored, so the wider gutter always lands on the same physical edge and the rings never sit on top of your writing.
